Honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.

We’re taking the day off from posting to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. and his amazing legacy.
This photo is from the Alabama Department of Archives and was taken in Atlanta during Dr. King’s funeral by Jim Peppler of the Southern Courier. Mourners walked from Ebenezer Church to Morehouse College, and this dog was part of the procession. The sign he is wearing reads, “‘I HAD A DREAM,’ amen, amen.”
Are you doing anything special on this day of service?

Papillons
French for “butterfly”, perhaps because their flowy ears resemble the wings of one, the Papillon is a canine with enough spirit and energy to go around for everyone. Known as being highly intelligent and very easy to train, the Papillon makes a great pet for any first-time pet owner due to its willingness to learn and please its owner. Friendly to those around them, often including the pet cat, the Papillon is as likeable as they are cute. If a tiny toy pup is what you desire then it wont be hard for you to understand why we scooped up the Papillon for this week’s The Etsy Herd.
Tinsel Snakes & People-Pet Cemeteries
Table Scraps
With so many pet stories around the web each week it’s hard to keep up. Table Scraps is our weekly roundup of memorable pet news around the internet.
- L.L. Bean: Now with dogs! (Boston)
- This snake has really got that special holiday sparkle. (People Pets)
- I like to think the Algonquin Hotel fenced in its diners rather than fenced out Matilda the cat. (NY Times)
- With the exception of ending up in that questionable pet cemetery Stephen King drummed up, this sounds fun! (People Pets)
- This is fine with me. If Michelle Obama wants to return as Bo the dog I am cool with returning as her. (Jezebel)
- Okay, this isn’t exactly “pet news.” But it is so cute it sure as hell should be. (Gothamist)

Turtles
You can them Myrtle, after your favorite girdle, or a track star you love to watch hurdle – whatever your method the prize remains the same: The Turtle. Making a great pet for people allergic to pet hair or those who just love a creature of both land and water, turtles are adorable in a million of their own special ways. With four types of popular pet turtle found in most US homes these days, Box Turtle, Mud Turtle, Sliders and Painted Turtles, there were plenty of these fine fellas to round up for this week’s The Etsy Herd.
