Vote for the Bravest Dog of the Year – Hero Dog Awards!

It never really surprises me when I hear about a dog’s amazing feats of strength, determination, loyalty, and intelligence to help a human (or other fellow animal) in need. Still, I love hearing these stories, because it only further solidifies my love for these awesome furry friends. So I was excited to learn about the Hero Dog Awards, the American Humane Association‘s annual event, which celebrates that undeniably deep connection we share with canines. Whether it be companion animals; service and therapy dogs; police, military, and first responder pooches, these brave dogs risk their lives and do extraordinary things because of their dedication to us, and they deserve a shout out.

Everyone cared for him and he was a part of our team.”

And while I don’t like giving the spotlight to strays simply because of their celebrity connection, this rescue tale needs to be shared. Read the rest of this entry »
California Chihuahuas Go Like Hot Potatoes in Idaho
We’ve written before about San Francisco Animal Care and Control sending chihuahuas and chi mixes to New York City for adoption with the help of Virgin America. Now, it seems the lovely state of Idaho can’t get enough of California’s famous chihuahuas either. For the second time in the same number of months, a large group of at-risk chihuahuas and chihuahua mixes have been transferred from an overcrowded shelter in Porterville, California, (where my Joey was rescued) to the Idaho Humane Society where they will be adopted. The San Francisco Chihuahua Meetup and Simply She, a pet fashion company, sponsored the transfer. Volunteers from San Francisco Chihuahua Meetup drove the dogs to Idaho over the course of several days and raised money for the trip.
