Sunny the Renegade
Curbed

As Sarah mentioned yesterday, she and I met up over the weekend to do some holiday shopping at the Renegade Craft Fair in SF. As I was squeezing past the throngs of people I bumped into this beauty. This is Sunny, a dove adopted from Mickacoo by a lovely young lady whose name I unfortunately can’t remember (sorry!!!)
Sunny is a former racing bird, who boasts being potty trained at home. Yah. Can you believe that? So cool! When she’s out and about, she wears a sweet little diaper and harness, which you can see in the above photo. Her owner likes to take her out with her so Sunny can work on her socialization skills. From what I saw, she’s making some big strides. She was completely calm in the craziness of the Concourse Exhibition Center. Much less anxious than I was amongst the crowds.
Now I can say that rescuing a pigeon or dove is next on my list.

Adopting from A Rescue Group – What to Expect
My fiancé and I are in the process of adding a second dog to our home and we are going through a rescue group this time around. Happy, our first dog, was adopted from a shelter and I decided if we were to ever get brave enough to add a second pup to the family, I wanted to go through a rescue group. Rescue groups take in shelter dogs who are especially at risk for euthanasia or who have behavioral or health needs that require care and attention that an already overwhelmed shelter may not be able to provide. Volunteers foster the dogs at their homes until they are placed in forever homes. Adopting through a rescue group has been a very different experience for us and I wanted to share what the process is like for anyone who may be considering it. Read the rest of this entry »
500 Dogs Rescued From a Quebec Puppy Mill

We all know puppy mills exist, but reports like the story of the rescue of 500 dogs from a Quebec operation earlier this month are a stark reminder of why they are so terrible. Read the rest of this entry »
Graeme, the Feline Train Escort

Dang! I get excited when I come home and my cats are waiting at the door for me, but one lucky Aussie gets to be escorted to and from the train by her adorable feline friend. I obviously should be asking for more from my kitties.
As reported by the Herald Sun, Graeme walks alongside his owner, Nicole Weinrich, every morning on her commute to the train station. Once there, the handsome tabby drops Weinrich off on the outbound plartform and then greets other train riders. In the afternoon, he returns to the station and waits at the inbound platform for his master to return!
