Meet Isaiah

Sweet, cuddly, playful and a tad toy obessed…those are just a few of the ways to describe this awesome dog. I had the pleasure of meeting this cool little dude last Sunday, when I went to photograph the new adoptables for Potato Chips Pomeranian Rescue (side note: I really love my job). Isaiah is currently available for adoption at Potato Chips Pomeranian Rescue. So if you’re looking for a Pommy friend and are willing to give this guy a few more toys than your usual pup, this could be your perfect pet.

I’m going to be honest with you, I’m not a big fan of purebred dogs. While I love all canines, including those that fall into the purebred category, I feel that the desire for a specific breed allows for things like puppy mills to happen. Yes, there are well meaning breeders out there who produce healthy and happy puppies for people looking to bring in a breed into their home, but there are also hundreds of people who simply profit off of dog trends. These people tend to treat their dogs like factories, kept alive for the sole purpose of producing profitable pups. The consequences of running such an operation is heartbreaking, and in many cases, when these businesses close their doors, the dogs are sent to auction to be picked up by another awful breeder, or if their lucky, a rescue organization who will change their lives forever.

One such organization is National Mill Dog Rescue, a group started by Theresa Strader and written about by Terri Coles in the last issue of Good Dog. Terri’s profile on the Colorado-based non-profit is a tearjerker for sure, but it’s also incredibly inspiring. As such, this week’s Pawesome Pound is dedicated to Strader and her wonderful rescue group. As always, these are only a few of the wonderful dogs up for adoption through the group. Check out National Mill Dog Rescue’s adoption page to see what other brave pups are looking for someone they can finally call mom or dad.

Pawesome Pound

How can you say no to a face like that? Well, someone did because little Bandit previous owners neglected him and than tried to sell him away for just 20 bucks at a garage sale. Luckily, there is a new rescue in Arizona to help save Bandit and others like him over at Potato Chips Pomeranian Rescue.

After the jump are some poms looking for their forever homes.
