Four Creative Ways to Display Pet Photos
Pet Projects
I have a ridiculous amount of photos of my pets. It’s gotten worse since purchasing a dSLR camera. There isn’t a moment I haven’t convinced myself isn’t the perfect Kodak moment. Unfortunately, I’m at a bit of a loss as to what to do with all these images. Sure, I share them in the Pawesome Flickr pool and include them in posts here on the site, but what about when I want to enjoy my digital snapshots in the analog world?
I recently got a chance to test out a few printing services for a New York Times story on the very subject. While testing, I found that each provided a great tool for those looking for creative ways to display snaps of their pets. After the jump, a look at a few of my favorite photo printing services for pets!
Teaching Your Fish To Be Awesome
Every kid out there has had a pet fish at some point, right? We actually used to have a pretty great aquarium when I was a kid, for which I have to my parents full credit. It was vibrant and (I hope) somewhat interesting to its inhabitants, the oldest of whom was a small, pale catfish named Leopold.
Nonetheless, fish — especially goldfish — often have a rough lot in life. Those poor guys who are handed out in plastic baggies as “prizes” at fairs always make my heart sink. Obviously people don’t think they’re worth much.
Dean Pomerleau and his son, Kyle, founders of Fish School (you heard that right, folks) have totally turned expectations of ordinary goldfish upside down, demonstrating their trainability and showing them to be totally pawesome (finsome?) pets.
Extreme Makeover: Animal Shelter Edition
I’ve never watched Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, but I have a number of friends who report on the effect it has on them: reliable weeping, outbursts of emotion, and a pleasant feeling that good things can befall those in extremely unfortunate circumstances after all.
Now shelter pets may be getting the same opportunity as the lucky Extreme Makeover recipients.

Pawesome is Looking For Contributors!

Do you love pets and writing about them, too? Pawesome is looking for new contributors for our blog. All Pawesome contributors — including Sonia and I — write for the blog as a labor of love, on top of our 9-to-5 work week, so yes, for now, it’s a totally unpaid writing opportunity. We hope that changes soon, but we also aren’t doing this as a get rich quick scheme. But if you can write 1 post a week or as much as 1 or more posts a day, we’d love to hear from you. We’re especially looking for animal lovers who can cover pets we don’t own ourselves, like birds, bunnies, rodents, reptiles, etc. We’d also love contributors from other parts of the country outside of S.F. and N.Y. or in other parts of the world! So if you’re interested, please e-mail me at sarah at pawesome dot net with writing clips and a short cover letter.

Estate Planning for Your Pet
I know, estate what-ing? I’ve never lived in a place that could by any stretch of the imagination be called an estate.
And yet estate planning, at least as far as your pet(s) are concerned, is a must. It’s lawyer-speak for something quite important — making sure that your pet’s ongoing care and comfort are assured, even if you are not the one to provide it to them.
No matter where you live, and no matter how crusty, hand-me-down and broke-ass your possessions may be, if you have a companion animal you need to take some time to think about what will happen to them if you bite the big one. And by that I mean die. Ugh, I know. While this may be particularly relevant for older folks, it really applies to anyone old enough to have a will or own a pet (whichever comes first). Lean closer, dear reader.
