Love & Hope Sanctuary
Charity Crush

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we’ll be taking a post a day leading up to the lovey dovey holiday to spotlight our favorite rescue organizations.
When I lived in Brooklyn I got sucked into the world of cat rescue. New York, with all its beautiful architecture, fashionable people, and delicious cuisine also has one of the most rampant stray and feral cat populations I’ve ever witnessed.
During the three plus years I was involved in trap-neuter-return, I fixed my fair share of strays who proved too friendly to be put back on the streets and instead got a second chance at a furever home. I also fixed a few kittens I thought I could re-home only to realize they were either too feral or too sick. Normally, I would have been left with yet another feral cat in the house (ahem, I’m looking at you Gizmo) and with the heart wrenching decision to euthanize leukemia+ kittens, but thanks to the folks at Love & Hope sanctuary I, along with the kits, were given a plan B.
Four Eyes for the Four Legged

I’ve been optically challenged since about the 8th grade. Until my mom agreed to upgrade me to contacts, I reluctantly wore glasses. I hated it. Now I’m more than happy to floss my Warby Parker frames. I actually feel weird when I have to put on contacts. Luckily my new found love of eyewear comes at a time when so many new companies have begun offering affordable prescription glasses. I used to cringe at forking over $300 on a pair of glasses I would probably only wear right before bed. The fact that I can now switch up my frames for under $100 makes wearing glasses less of a burden and more fun.
Many companies, like Warby Parker, offer charitable incentives for choosing their frames to plug in your Rx. One such company is Amy Sacks, which benefits animals with every eye glass sale.
Turning ‘Rescue’ into Real Rescue for Fluff Friends

Fluff Friends Rescue, a game for iPad and iPhone, apparently lets you do way more than tamagotchis did in 1996 — it probably sucks proportionately more time, too. The idea is so sweet, it’ll give you a toothache: rescue pets from the woods (the woods!!), design a shelter; feed, play with, and groom your charges; receive donations; and use the donations to expand your rescue resources. Visit a friend’s rescue while you’re at it. I haven’t even played, but I feel contact-addicted just reading about it.
Artists with Animals Notecard Set

New York City-based non profit Rational Animal has created a cool notecard set that will appeal to music-loving animal lovers (or animal-loving music lovers). Each of the 10 mini-print blank notecards features black & white images taken by Morrison Hotel Gallery photographers of musicians, like John Lennon, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, and others, with pets.
The card set costs $20, and 100% of proceeds go to Rational Animal.
