To Russia With Love

During my recent trip to Moscow and St Petersburg, I spent a few days visiting the country’s landmarks. Little did I know that each storybook location would offer a slew of stray animals mixed in with the historical architecture.

Like any big city, there are bound to be a few cats and dogs roaming around, but imagine seeing them in the gardens of palaces and the cemetery where Tchaikovsky is buried. And it’s not just tourist locations that these strays mull around in. One of the strangest experiences was walking by the Moscow bus stops and seeing dogs just laying in the grass hanging out while commuters waited for their ride.

Dramatic Animals, The Roundup

A few years ago a silly video of a prairie dog quickly spinning around from a TV set went viral. The key ingredient to its infectiousness was its soundtrack, which, not surprisingly, turns almost any video of an animal turning it’s head into viral gold. Cat Meet New Cat: Tips on Introducing Felines

First you start with one cat, then comes along a second. Will they be buddies or enemies?  It’s not easy with felines, as they tend to be loners and territorial, yet, still want companionship.

When I brought my second male cat Ziggy home, it was important to keep him separated at first from Marley (my first cat). Even though Ziggy looked healthy enough, we had to be sure he didn’t have any diseases or fleas. Plus, keeping cats separated allows both new and not so new cats to get used to each other’s smells, without having access to each other’s claws.
