Weight Management Win with the Slimcat Food Ball

Long time readers might remember that about two years ago, my vet told me Birdie was a little… chubby. So my husband and I went out and bought her a Slimcat “interactive” feeder. We recently took her to the vet again, and the verdict is in: she has not gained any weight!
While this may not seem like a huge victory – after all, she didn’t lose weight – our vet was extremely positive about. He said almost all indoor cats continually gain weight as they age, so it is in fact an accomplishment just to maintain.
My original pros and cons of the Slimcat stand. To recap:
Pros: Makes the cat eat more slowly and probably fill up faster as a result Provides some mental stimulation Possibly provides some physical stimulation (although not in Birdie’s case — she just sits there and knocks it around in place until food falls out of it).
Cons: A little annoying to fill up every day Sometimes you step on dry food that you cat has strewn about when playing with the ball Not a great TOY, per se — I have a hard time imagining most cats having fun with this. But maybe that’s just my cat not having fun with it.
In conclusion, the Slimcat is a weight management win for indoor kitties!
