Opinion: First Family Needs First Cat

I love First Dog Bo. So, first things first: congratulations on another term as America’s First Pet!
I noted in an earlier post that there was an apparent, but perhaps predictable bias against cats — “pet me pet me pet me!” vs. “uggggh photographers” — among our voting populace. Thankfully, this is also being addressed by Carla Hall at the Los Angeles Times. Take it away, Ms. Hall:
Perhaps the first family should consider getting a first cat. They’re quieter than dogs, less labor intensive — not that staff is a problem in the White House — and really good at amusing themselves.
This is an excellent compromise proposed in light of the president’s hesitation to add to their pet family. What do you think?
P.S. Did anyone else know Portuguese water dogs were quite this large? I definitely did not.

I think one of the girls (Malia?) is really allergic, which is probably why they chose a dog like Bo – his breed doesn’t have an undercoat, so there’s less shedding and therefore less exposure to dander. Cats are probably right out, as they are for me. :(
The article indicated as much :\ But I thought for sure there’d be a hypoallergenic feline option for the First Family (and for you, Maria :) )
Only if it’s the hairless kind, but those freak me out! :D
