Hello My Name Is…Jessup & Juniper

Names, ages, sex, breeds: Jessup – 7 months old, black-a-licious & Juniper – 7 months old, male, domestic
Owner, city: Alex Peters, Philadelphia
How we got our names: There are small side streets throughout Philadelphia with fancy trinity and Brownstone homes and cobble stone streets and colonial classiness is where.it’s.at. So, it’s only natural that we were named after two of these local horse-drawn carriage alleyways because we were found in one by the kind people at PAWS in South Philly.
How we met: Our “owner” (that man who feeds us who we allow to live in our home) met us at PAWS and fell in love immediately and of course when you get one kitten you may just as well get two, right?
Personality type: Jessup – Well, I’m not your typical male cat or what I’ve heard other dudes are like. I want your love, I expect your attention and god damnit, I demand both. I love to play and some would say I’m a bit of a social butterfly. Aside from my other feline friends I love hanging out with my mouse toys and have a love-hate relationship going with the laser pointer. Juniper – Good story, Jessup, zzzz. Well, I’m more of a lap cat. You see, you could be eating, drinking, reading, lounging or sleeping and the chances are almost 100% that I will be laying on some part of you. I may not be as playful as Jessup but I will go one-on-one in a WWF style wrestling match with him to see who gets to the dinner bowl first.
Siblings: Each other. Duh.
Pet peeves: We can agree on this one. Usually around 5:45am we get a serious case of the munchies and Alex is sooooo annoying about not wanting to get up to feed us. Ugh.
Favorite place to lounge: Jessup – I’m a traditionalist; I like the couch, the counter and the windowsill. Juniper – I’m more unconventional; I like any place on your human body that looks comfortable enough to take a nap. If you aren’t in a seated or lying down position, I’ll take a snooze on MacBook screen until I decide that I hate the MacBook screen and try to separate it from the keyboard once and for all.
Favorite foods: We tolerate our kitten food but honestly whatever Alex is eating smells and looks like it’s going to taste so much better so we try and sneak away with that but are typically unsuccessful. Sometimes as a treat he will indulge us with our favorite wet tuna food. Score!
Forbidden indulgences: Jessup – Oh, this is easy. I totally dig the toilet and the shower. I love the water and sometimes just to piss Alex off I will drink water from the toilet or tear apart his shower curtain. Juniper – Jessup, let’s not be coy about the reality of our situation; the truth of the matter is that we’re all shower buddies. We both like to sit on the shower tub ledge while Alex takes a shower and then as soon as he gets out it’s our turn to play in the slippery tub. Also, I’m a bit of tech/music nerd; I’m really in to the machine with the revolving vinyl discs. I like to check it out and dance with it. Every now and again Alex asks me to just sit and enjoy the music rather than trying to DJ but I can’t help it. Both Jessup and I love to meow-down to Beethoven, Joanna Newsom and the Dirty Projectors.
Strangest habits: What? Define strange. I mean, if wanting to relax somewhere refreshing like the bottom shelf of the refrigerator is strange then sure, okay, guilty.
Stand-out physical feature: Jessup – my bushy-ass skunk tail! That must have been one freaky night between mom and dad. Juniper – Well my back legs are smidge turned in (Dad, Alex is a ballet dancer so it’s all ballet terms around here) and pigeon toed so sometimes when I run they get a little tangled up. Probs why I prefer to lounge about so much. But we both have gorgeous glowing green eyes and shiny black coats. Jealous?
Things you might not know if I didn’t tell or show you: We really enjoy traveling! When we were first adopted we had a super rad cardboard box carrier, but have since upgraded to a kitty home-on-the-go…like an RV for cats. We’ve only seen a few places in Philly but just got our passports approved and can’t wait to see the world.
