DIY Books Featuring… Your Pets!

My son Fynn loves animals. I know, most kids do, but seriously, nothing makes my heart swell more than to hear Fynn’s excitement at seeing one of our furry family members. Or, for that matter, any bird, cat, or dog we come across.

Lately Fynn’s made a habit of pointing to animals found in his books that remind him of one of our animals. Taro Gomi, for example, has a knack for painting Dim Sum‘s likeness. Fynn gets so happy when he recognizes an animal as one of his own that I’ve often thought about making him a book with large portraits of each of our furiends.

Well that thought is turning into action now that I discovered that Pinhole Press has beautiful board books you can customize with your own images.

While Pinhole Press promotes these books as ways to get photos of family members in, I think there’s no better family to display than the furry kind. Plus, it’s a super cute way to teach Fynn how to read names. The company also offers customized memory game tiles, flash cards, and magnetic portraits. I’ll post my final product and Fynn’s review when it arrives!

A couple of years ago, My siblings and I did this for my niece and nephew. We created a pre-bed book called “goodnight cats” on blurb.com. It really was too cute for words. The book said goodnight to each cat in the family (we have a few) and featured many pictures of cats sleeping in beds – an easy pic to come by!
