Original Cat Gangster in Riverside Park
From the Mailbag

Because I’ve been an animal person all my life, I get sent a lot of animal-related email by my friends and family (which I love, by the way, never stop). Often they’re just links to funny videos or forwarded chains, but this one from my friend Tim included the above photograph and a story anyone familiar with cats will appreciate. From Tim:

I had an “only in New York” moment this morning while walking in Riverside Park. There was a guy who had brought his cat with him to workout. He was doing pushups and stretches in a narrow grassy strip between the major biker/runner throughway and a smaller sidewalk. The cat was on a leash and was doing what cats do best, not giving a f**k. But it was before 9 AM, so there were many people letting their dogs run free. The cat didn’t appear to care at all, even when a ridiculous looking dog hopped up on the bench next to it and started barking and generally losing its mind. Luckily that dog was on a leash, and the woman walking it didn’t allow it to get too close. But the cat wasn’t bothered one bit. It just sat there pretending the dog didn’t exist.

I’m telling you people, it was the most gangster thing I saw all day.
