Tips on Recovering a Lost Pet

I’ve only ever lost one pet in my lifetime, and I hope he was the last. I was only a kid, but never finding my cat Pimpek scarred me for life and has made me one very paranoid pet owner.
I hope none of you ever have to go looking for one of your pets, but if your furry friend goes missing I recently read a great tip (but of course can’t remember where!) I’ll share it, along with some other tips, anyway.
- Make up a large sign announcing that you’ve lost with your pet, complete with your pet’s photo and your phone number, and place it outside your house. Oftentimes, if your pet goes missing it will stick close to home and if someone finds him or her they’ll walk around the neighborhood trying to find the owner.
- Post traditional signs near where your pet was last seen.
- Report the missing pet to local animal shelters and vets.
Any of you have tips for finding missing loved ones?

Post on your town’s facebook page and request that the admin of the page share the photo. I’ve seen several lost/found pets posted this way on the facebook page of my hometown, Annapolis, Maryland. They always get a lot of shares.
Put signs up at the vet clinics and animal shelters in the area where your pet was lost. Make use of as much social media as possible and have friends do the same. Check with local rescues and shelters on a daily basis, don’t just rely on their websites (they’re pretty busy and don’t necessarily update their websites that often). And make sure your pet is microchipped and that your info with the microchipping company is up to date. As someone who has worked in vet clinics, this is the biggest mistake I’ve seen when pets are found but their owners have moved.
