Hello My Name Is: Birdie

Name, age, sex, breed: Birdie, 4 (?), bitchy female, dilute calico (technical color: “blue cream”)

Owner, city: Leda and Tim, San Francisco

How I got my name: My dad originally named Birdie after author Samantha Power, but it didn’t really stick. She had a funny little chirp when we first got her, plus I liked the name Birdie.

How we met: Failed foster! Tim and I took in Birdie through Give Me Shelter. She proved difficult at first, destroying approximately $500 worth of headphones in short order. Then, when we would send her off to adoption events on the weekend, she acted like she was being tortured. Despite this, she grew on us. You can see how this ends up.

Personality type: Like Sonia’s Dim Sum, Birdie is a typical calico: affectionate, yet totally bitchy. Wants to be with you wherever you are. But if you’re not doing what she wants you to do, watch out. Otherwise, sleepy.

Siblings: None allowed in the door… yet.

Pet peeves: When there is no dry food in her dish or food ball, full freak out ensues.

Favorite place to lounge: Your lap. Failing that, stalking birds at the feeder or asleep at the foot of the bed.

Favorite foods: Any wet food with lots of gravy!

Forbidden indulgences: Tim’s favorite sandwich, the Elvis Keith, from Ike’s Place.

Strangest habits: We put nutritional yeast on our popcorn - Birdies likes to lick any remaining yeast out of the bowls when we’re done.

Stand-out physical feature: Her hypnotizing green eyes, which she uses for good and evil.

Things you might not know if I didn’t tell or show you: She likes to go use the bathroom whenever we do.
