Hide a Litter Box with Help from Ikea
Pet Projects

For centuries (totally true fact) the human race has been hard at work trying to solve the old litter box problem. It’s a real stinker, yet to find a truly remarkable solution. There have been attempts — stylish top loading crappers and full home renovations that take kitty shits into consideration — but it’s the DIY hacks that I love the most because they are accessible and often very clever.

Take the IKEA hack above. Once again, a clever pet owner has re-imagined the Swedish company’s Expedit bookshelf (you may remember seeing it a few years back turned into a hamster habitat) to hold more than just books and tchochkes. Ilker Kopan of Istanbul assembled the top four shelves on her Expedit, leaving a tall compartment at the bottom where she can stash her kitty’s potty. She then turned the remaining shelf into a door, locked using a pack of Patrull kid locks, that conceals the box, while still giving the cat access. Well done!
