Do I Stay or Do I Go? Vacationing without the Dog

Last week, Katie wrote about Dog Vacay – a site where people can find nearby homes to board their dogs while they’re away. But what if you want to travel with your pet? Dogtrekker.com is a website where you can find dog-friendly lodging, restaurants, and destinations in Northern California.

Dogtrekker.com was started in 2011 by Roxanne and Dave Kendrick, a married couple, who’ve owned (and traveled with) many dogs. They’ve recruited a group of other canine-loving writers (including a writer I’ve worked with at the SF Chronicle, Mary Eisenhart!) to research and review spots in Northern California to assess how dog-friendly spots are. DogTrekker.com also offers attractions and activities, like good hikes, lakes and beaches, and even wineries that allow dogs to be in tow.

If you’re planning a trip to San Francisco, Berkeley, Sonoma, Napa, or Sacramento, definitely check out Dogtrekker! But unfortunately, the site is limited to Northern California. Hopefully, they’ll be able to expand to other regions of the country in the future.
