How Much Is That Shelter Doggie in the Window?
Who’s That Pet in the Window

A holiday tradition kicked off its 25th year today with the start of Macy’s SF SPCA Holiday Windows season-long event. Adorable and adoptable kittens, puppies, cats and dogs from the San Francisco SPCA will be on display in the windows of the San Francisco Macy’s starting today through the end of the holiday season on January 1st. The animals are placed in holiday scenes — along with a comfy bed, food, water and appropriate toys — and placed in view of busy shoppers, and potential adopters. It’s kind of an irresistible sight and reason enough alone to step foot in busy Union Square.

The SF SPCA takes care to choose only animals who are outgoing and will flourish in situations like the Macy’s windows. The furry friends are also constantly monitored by staff and volunteers. Last year’s event raised $70,000 for the SF SPCA and nearly 300 animals found homes. There is an ongoing need for volunteers to take on two hour shifts during the Holiday Windows season and those interested may inquire here.
