Persians FTW!

The Cat Fancier’s Association has tabulated their 2010 registrations, crunched all the numbers, and come up with a list of the ten most popular breeds in 2010. Topping this year’s list is the Persian.
Here’s what Animal Planet’s Cats 101 has to say about this winning breed:
The other nine cats that made CFA’s top ten list are, in order of popularity:
- Maine Coon
- Exotic
- Ragdoll
- Sphynx
- Siamese
- Abyssinian
- American Shorthair
- Cornish Rex
- Birman
Personally, I’ve never owned a pure bred cat, I’ve always had rescued mutt kitties. I like giving a rescued animal a forever home, and I feel like the natural breeding makes them hardier and healthier. But I do love the beauty and amazing variety of cat breeds (Yes, Cats 101 is a favorite show of mine). I also think it’s fun to try to guess which breeds make up my mixed-breed fuzzy buddies (though I have a feeling I’m always wrong).
Which are your favorite breeds? Or if you have mixed-breed cats like me, what breeds do you suspect contribute to your unique furry friend?

I’ll stick with the mixes too, but I do love the looks and personalities of the Maine Coons. We place a lot of Maine Coon mixes (or cats resembling them!) through our shelter outplacement group. But of course there’s no bad breed–or color–for a good cat! And a beautiful, healthy cat is always stunning!
I have a (mostly) maine coon cat. He is the BEST cat I have ever had in my family (of the 8 I have lived with). I got him as a little teeny feral kitten that was being neglected by his momma. He is a very special boy :)
