Macy’s Kittens
Who’s That Pet in the Window?

The holidays means that the SF SPCA has taken over Macy’s storefront windows and filled them with adorable, adoptable puppies and kittens. Don’t worry, these cuddly lil ones don’t stay overnight in the window — they’re taken out at the end of the day and new pups/kitties are brought in the following day.

An SPCA volunteer is always watching over the display, there to answer questions from potential adopters. Although there were early reports that the SF SPCA Macy’s Window campaign this year had a slow start, I overheard the SPCA volunteer at the window say that they’re doing OK and had found several homes for these pets. In fact, I found out yesterday that one of my friend’s friends took one of the kittens homes. Very glad to hear! Although I do still have a tinge of worry that these sorts of displays can cause people to “impulse adopt.” Crossing my fingers that I’m wrong here.

I remember these windows being the main reason I would step foot downtown during the holidays. I agree that there’s a fear that people will impulse adopt, but I hope the SFSPCA is as stringent with these animals as they are with those at their main shelter. I know they put you through a pretty rigorous process when you adopt from the shelter.
