Hello My Name Is… Eve

Name, age, sex, breed: Eve, 6 months, female, fancy rat.

Owner, city: Laura Hoffmann; Zachary, Louisiana

How I got my name: After the biblical character Eve of course. I wanted her to have a name that started with “E” so when spoken of her name would flow with my other rat, Echo.

How we met: My first rat Echo was awfully lonely in her large cage. I did some research online and discovered rats are extremely social animals, something I’d learned to be true thanks to Echo’s charismatic personality. I immediately felt guilty I hadn’t researched this sooner and ran out to buy Echo a companion, Eve happened to be the one at Petco that caught my attention!

Personality type: Shy, docile, not outgoing like her sister Echo at all. Eve follows Echo around all day long. Echo gets so annoyed at times that she’ll bite Eve by the scruff and toss her across the cage. I make sure they don’t actually fight when I’m home; rat fights are easy to break up, imagine that.

Siblings: Echo, another female rat.

Pet peeves: When the cat Odin stands on top of the rat cage. She attacks his paws through the bars of the cage until he runs away. It’s quite humours to watch my cat pick up his paws in shock as the rat tries to nip at him, especially since Odin refuses to learn his lesson and stay off the rat cage.

Favorite place to lounge: In her leopard print hammock!

Favorite foods: Banana chips, her actual food pellets, seeds, lettuce, cucumbers, grapes, and anything else mom gives her.

Forbidden indulgences: Cane’s chicken. I discovered by slipping her and Echo a small taste that they thoroughly enjoy chicken.

Strangest habits: Swaying back and forth and smacking her mouth, she’ll do this for ten minutes or so… we think she’s a little slow mentally, or rather, we know she is.

Stand-out physical feature: Her beautiful markings.

Things you might not know if I didn’t tell or show you: She’s not much of an independent rat. Echo is the pack leader so when you take Echo out of the cage Eve stands at the entrance waiting for Echo to return. It’s sweet but concerns me as to what will happen if Echo dies before Eve… I’m hoping she’ll act herself when her best friend dies, but it’d be understandable if she didn’t. I’d hate to lose them both at once.

Thanks Laura and Eve!
