I finally had a chance to listen to this week’s Fresh Air interview with Jim Gorant author of, The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick’s Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. In this episode, Gorant, along with ASPCA animal behavior specialist Dr. Stephen Zawistowski discuss what happened to the 49 surviving pit bulls that were rescued from Vick’s dog fighting ring back in 2007. Special guest, Hector, one of those pit bulls, along with his new owner, Andrew Yori, also make appearances on the episode. It was nice to hear Yori give Bad Rap a shout-out on the show! It was also great to hear that 47 of the dogs are still alive and well (2 had to be euthanized), living in sanctuaries and with new families; four of them (including Hector) are certified therapy dogs!
This interview is really worth a listen, so if you haven’t already heard it, you can download it via iTunes or stream it on NPR’s website.
