Pit bulls rarely get positive press, so when they do something pawesome it needs to be shouted from the rooftops. In this case, a Chihuahua-Terrier mix named Buster stepped outside to take a tinkle when his mom Jodi Robinette of Littleton, CO suddenly heard him screaming. When she ran to see what had happened a coyote ran away, furiously shaking the dog in its mouth.

Acccording to KMGH Denver, the coyote suddenly dropped Buster and scampered away. Turns out the neighbor’s pit bulls chased the coyote who got spooked and spit out the little pup. “They were circling him and sitting by him. Making sure he was all right,”  Robinette told KMGH. “So it needs to be said that there’s some good (in pit bulls) and not all bad.”

Buster is now recovering in an oxygen chamber at Columbine Animal Hospital and Emergency Clinic. He was scheduled for surgery on Monday to repair a collapsed lung, chest injuries and some deep lacerations.

I can only hope that Coloradans soon realize that dogs that fit the pit bull category aren’t the terrors they’ve imagined and change some of their breed-specific legislation.
