Ever wonder why a dachshund is called a dachshund. Mental Floss rounded up facts on the origins of 13 pure bred names. Everyone from Basset Hounds to Weimaraners are de-mythed. Turns out wiener dogs were bred to dig into badger holes in order to kill them and dachshund means “badger dog” in zee German. Who knew!
