Ceramic and Stainless Steel Pet Fountains

I used to have a fountain water bowl for my cats but I sold it at a garage sale because I wasn’t feeling the plastic. Call me paranoid, but I’ve stopped using most plastic dishware for myself and for the cats since hearing that the toxins in plastics can leach into food and water and because plastics hold on to bacteria more easily than metal/ceramic. I also hate plastic products because they are usually cheaply made and unattractive. These days, I use stainless steel bowls for both the cats’ food and water, and if I ever decide to get them another water fountain bowl, I’d definitely consider Pioneer Pets’ ceramic and stainless steel drinking fountains.

Both the stainless steel and ceramic fountains are dishwasher safe — and ceramic is especially good for cats who are prone to feline acne. Like most pet drinking fountains, Pioneers’ use replaceable charcoal filters.

My one complaint about the ceramic version is that it only comes in one color — black — which may or may not fit your decor (in my case, not). Fortunately, stainless steel is a good alternate option.

Both fountains can be found online for around $50-$60.

Hi! Great article and I’ve been reading a lot lately about the best kind of food bowls for cats. Luckily, all the cats I’ve had in the past have not had a problem with feline acne and the plastic bowls, but we recently got a new kitty and I really want to treat her the best I can. I totally feel you about the plastic – I’m reducing my plastic consumption any way possible! Since this article was written a while ago, I’m wondering if you have used the Pioneer fountains at all as those are what I’m looking into. Since the price difference is only $5 between the stainless steel and ceramic options (and they both seem like well constructed and BEAUTIFUL bowls), do you have any thoughts on which I should get? The kitten is still small but growing but she’s VERY rambunctious so I have a feeling I should get the heavier ceramic bowl. However, I’m afraid of it breaking. Please let me know if you have any reviews! Thanks!
