Get Well Soon! Pets with Casts
Bookmark This!

I was surfing the Webs for interesting pet tumblrs and came across Pets with Casts, a humorous tumblr that documents cute animals (not just pets) wrapped in bandages with commentary about each cast-wearer. Of course I’m not a fan of animals being hurt, but no animals were injured in the making of this tumblr, so I’m OK with endorsing Pets with Casts.

Hot Cars and Dogs Are a No No!

It seems like a simple enough request. If it’s hot out, or even warm for that matter, do not leave your dog (or any animal or baby!) waiting in the car. Cars get hot very quickly, even if you have the windows cracked. You know they do, because at some point in your life you’ve jumped into your toasty car and burned your skin on your seat belt, steering wheel, and seat back. I know you have…

Unfortunately, no matter how many times this warning has been told to people, dog owners still leave their pups in the car. Heck, even the CEO of the Richmond, Va. SPCA made the mistake! She says she didn’t know her husband put their 16-year-old blind and deaf dog in the car while she was getting ready. The dog died after spending four hours in the overheating vehicle. Since it seems like just about anyone can make this tragic mistake, MyDogIsCool.com has designed a series of printable flyers and posters that you can print at home and then place under people’s windshields (or post up at local businesses to remind customers not to leave their dogs in the car). I’m going to print out a few and make sure I always carry some in my bag and in my own car.

Say Cheese! Two Guinea Pigs Pet Photography Studio

ModernCat’s latest post  in their pet photographer Q&A series brought my attention to Two Guinea Pigs Pet Photography Studio in Sydney, Australia. Run by Julianna Koh, Two Guinea Pigs specializes in photos of more than just guinea pigs and cats. Koh — who uses a Canon 450D and 85mm f/1.2L EF lens for you photo nerds out there — says, “I don’t specialise in a particular breed or animal. I photograph pets in a non-conventional way (some say quirky) in that I prefer to capture their movements and expressions in the environment they are most comfortable with. It’s like spying on them through the camera lens and seizing every opportunity I can get to frame an image. I would say about 80% of my shoots are candid, where I let them be themselves, sit or play wherever. The other 20% are posed shots where I usually get the pets to move to nearer to where the light is.”

Great photos Julianna! And great Q&A ModernCat!

A Ferret for All Seasons

My friend Jennifer posted on Facebook about Marshall’s Ferret Beret which led me to Marshall’s website that has all their other ferret fashion accessories. Amazing. You can now dress up your pet ferret* in the gear of your favorite subculture! Aside from Frenchie Ferret above, check out some more Ferret scenesters after the jump.

*I know ferrets aren’t legal in California (yet), but I’m just sayin’….
