This Week's Picks From City of Los Angeles West Valley Animal Shelter The Pawesome Pound

I'm about to head down to L.A. tomorrow for a wedding in Pasadena and to visit my mom in my hometown of Northridge, so I decided to make this week's Pawesome Pound about adoptable pets down in SoCal. Read This, It's Off the Leash

Vegansaurus/SF Vegan Bakesale‘s Laura Beck has done it again, this time, she’s written a hilarious article called Off the Leash on The Bold Italic about trying out four things with her pit bull Hazel in San Francisco: finding an apartment, taking public transportation, taking a cab, and dining out. Her findings? It ain’t always a walk in the park. In fact, she says apartment hunting with a pit bull in SF, “is like trying to find a needle in a haystack made of
porcupines and rhinoceros shit. Seriously unpleasant.” And it really is true — apartment hunting with a cat in SF isn’t easy! But, fortunately for Laura, Hazel, and SF dog owners, there are places like Duboce Park Cafe, Atlas, and Zazie, that allow, if not welcome, dogs to their establishments. San Francisco may still have a lot to work on, in terms of being a dog-friendlier place, but it’s getting there.

Check out this adorableness found in the home of blogger and Etsy seller, Priscilla Locke. The decals are part of Martha Stewart's line at Michaels. Too cute! Such a great (and creative) place to put decals.

Oscar_Bionic_Cat
Meet Oscar, a cat from Jersey (the British isle, that is, not the U.S. shore), who has two bionic feet! Oscar lost his two back feet last October in an accident involving a combine harvester, but fortunately, his owner was able to contact Noel Fitzpatrick, a talented surgeon who works in bionic grafting. According to BBC News, Oscar's new feet are weight-bearing "custom-made implants that 'peg' the ankle to the foot" and are bioengineered to in the same way that an antler bone grows through a deer's skin. The prostheses allow Oscar to have a
normal cat walk. That's some crazy science shit! These days, Oscar's walking footloose (ha) and fancy free on grafted metal legs.
