Mutts Rule!
I love all dogs, but I admit that mutts have an especially strong hold over my heart. How can you not love an underdog? So, I was pleased as punch to read about Otis and Diesel, two mixed breed dogs who competed at an American Kennel Club sponsored dog
show at the Mattaponi Kennel Club in Virginia. The dogs were the only two out of 40 dogs in the show that were mutts, and it’s the first time in 125 years that non-pure bred dogs, or “All American” dogs as they AKC is calling them, were allowed to participate!
Alite Boa Lite Leash Makes a Difference
Guinea Pig
Recently, SF urban-outdoor company, Alite Design, contacted Pawesome and sent us some cool products to review. The first product, Alite’s Boa Pod, was tested out by Chris, my co-worker at The
Bold Italic. This week, I got another one of my awesome co-workers, Shakti, to try out the Alite Boa Lite Leash.
Adopt-a-Shelter Cat Month Starts Tuesday
Yowzers, first it was World Turtle Day and now I discover that June 1st kicks off Adopt-A-Shelter Cat month! While all strays need their time in the spotlight, homeless cats are on the losing team when it comes to adoptions — 44% of dogs that enter shelters are adopted, while only 29% of cats are.
Many shelters across the states are taking the month to educate the public about the growing number of homeless cats looking for homes, and to offer incentives for adopting a cat from their shelter, such as free follow-up vetting or waived adoption fees for older felines.
Petfinder.com gets in on all the cattiness with the launch of The Whiskers photo contest. Shelters can submit pictures of their most foxy felines to the site, which visitors can then vote on.
Sample voting cat-egories include:
- Best Newcomer: All kittens are adorable, but only one can take top paw!
- Best On-Screen Duo: Great cats travel in pairs and this cat-egory is an homage to the most charming tabby team.
- Best Comedic Performance: Petfinder has teamed up with the popular website, ICanHasCheezburger.com to find the most capricious cat around!
Winners will be announced on June 30. And if you really want to get your "awww" on, read some of the odes
to older cats submitted to the ASPCA. They're sure to get you in
the mood for adding to the furry family.
