Cats Who Love Water
A Problem Looking for a Solution

I think my cat Pookie is part bengal. She absolutely loves water. While many cats paw at water dishes to lick up drips from the bottom of their paws, Pookie is way beyond that. It’s like poking at the water with one paw was her gateway drug to full body immersion.
The video above does not give justice to just how intense her water play can be, but it’s what I could catch on film at such short notice.
She started with one paw, but she quickly graduated to two paws, and then a few weeks ago I found her with all four paws standing in the water bowl. She’s now obsessed with anytime the water is running anywhere, quickly jumping into sinks as soon as the faucet has been turned off. It’s a little annoying to say the least.
This has led me to switch out my cat’s large bowl for a small mug in the hopes that Pookie won’t be as enticed — yah right. I still hear her splashing about, which drives me nuts as it means walking onto the soaking floor.
So I ask you dear Pawesome readers, have you had to deal with this from your cats? Is there a solution? I was thinking about getting these guys a drinking fountain, but I’m not sure if the constantly moving water will entice her to swim more or less. Any suggestions or advice?

She totally takes after her papa Marley — he has been catching the water dripping out of the faucet these past few weeks. Still trying to catch it on video. He loves to sit in the kitchen sink!
Our mutual friend Andrea told me you had adopted our tabby Gravy’s sister from the warehouse on Dean Street in Brooklyn (we live in the building next door), and I’m excited to see that Pookie also likes water. It must run in the family! Is Pookie polydactyl, by any chance?
Woah! That’s crazy. You have her older sister? Pookie is poly! I wonder if their dad was… You should email photos of her over. sonia at pawesome dot net.
I will definitely do so when I have a free minute! Yeah, Gravy is about 3 and a half years old and looks… well, just like Pookie, right down to the extra toes (my husband and I call her “Man Hands”). Good to know that another member of her family has a loving home!
