Doggie Drawings for a Worthy Cause

Oh goody! I love when things just fall into my lap. So is the case with stumbling upon Lili Chin and her Doggie Drawings. Lili happened to comment on my Doggy Bootcamp post yesterday, which led me to her Web site, which led me to fall in love with her amazing pet portraits (Yes, she draws other animals besides dog). Besides being an awesome artist, Lili’s got a generous heart: 20% of proceeds from her commissioned portraits are donated to a great cause: Boston Buddies, a Southern California Boston Terrier rescue group.

Lili is an animation artist and producer by profession, but she started Doggie Drawings in April 2008, about a year after starting to foster special needs and senior Boston Terriers through Boston Buddies. She became very involved with the group and the cause and eventually adopted her current BT, Boogie, from Boston Buddies.
She got the idea to start Doggie Drawings because she was getting requests from random people to draw their dogs. She decided if she was going to do it, that she’d use it as a fundraising tool. Eventually, she started donating some of the proceeds to other groups like the American Boston Terrier Rescue in Texas and French Bulldog Village in Massachusetts. In fact, if you commission a work from Lili, you can request that your donation go to a specific rescue group, if you have another in mind.

I like Lili’s portraits because they’re stylized, yet pretty spot on in terms of resemblance. She captures her subjects’ personalities and highlights their unique features. And her professional experience shows in her great sense of composition and color.

If you’re interested in having Lili create a portrait of your pet, go to Doggie Drawings for more information. And if you don’t have a pet, you can still buy Lili’s works, including calendars, prints and postcard sets inspired by her pal, Boogie.

  • Wow, those look awesome! I just finished up a drawing class, but every single dog (or any animal, really) I try and draw continues to look terrible.
