My friends John and Renee in Chicago go out to see live music pretty frequently, so I wasn’t surprised when John mentioned they were going to a rock show by some band called the Rock Cats. It wasn’t until he explained the act in more details that I realized that this wasn’t just any band.

Dogs Save Couple from Burning Home

Pitbull-fire-rescue

Here's a bittersweet story of how pets can save lives.

A couple in Hollywood, FL were saved from their burning home thanks to their two dogs. An unattended candle started the fire that was only brought to the sleeping couple's attention when their two dogs began to bark. When the owner of the home got up to see what the commotion was he realized his home was up in flames. He and his girlfriend and one of the dogs got out, but their other dog, who was sleeping in a crate, couldn't be rescued due to the hot flames.

A witness to the fire tried to climb into the house to save the dog but the fire was just too intense by then and the dog perished. The homeowner and his girlfriend were rushed to the hospital where the woman was treated for second-degree burns on her arms and first-degree burns to her face. You can watch the WSVN newscast here.

Say, What?! Polar Bears and Dogs Cuddling?!

Yep, it’s true. Check out this clip from the FirstScience.tv show “Jailed Polar Bear” highlighting the uncanny relationship between dogs and bears. It’s too bad that Baltic didn’t come across any dog-friendly Polar Bears vacationing off the coast of Poland on his amazing ice floe journey — he might’ve had some friendly company to keep him warn.

Thanks Holly and Owen for the tip!

The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

I dressed up as Little Orphan Annie for Halloween this year. I bought the wig off of eBay, but it ended up being a little too short and curly so that some people had no idea who I was, even though I wore the signature Annie red dress. Truth be told, I looked like a really homely child with a bad perm. I ended up giving the wig to my brother, Gregory, because I knew he’d find a good use for it. And sure enough, he did — check out this hilarious photo of Eero, one of two kitties owned by Gregory and his girlfriend Emily. Hope they can get a photo of their other cat, Eames, in the wig, too!

Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy Hearts Tripods!

Exciting news from the tripod front. If you didn't know already, I sell the "I Heart Tripods" shirts you see advertised on the left. The idea came about when my lovely dog, Lulu, was diagnosed with bone cancer and had to have her left hind leg amputated, as well as go through chemotherapy. Luckily Lulu and I got to spend three more years together, but the drawback was that I was left with a hefty vet bill.

In order to help pay off some of my vet debt I got some friends to help me design and print shirts in order to raise money. I not only paid off my debt, but I was able to help others who were in the same predicament.

Well if that wasn't cool enough, we just found out from one of our OG tripod supporters, Libby Staub, that Jeff Tweedy from Wilco was wearing our very own "I Heart Tripods" shirt on last night's Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

You can see it tucked behind his jacket in the video above! Thanks Jeff for the support and thanks Libby for letting us know!
